Debriefing

Projects

and Events

Description:

As leaders and managers, we want our teams to get the most out of every experience. But left to their own unguided self assessment, they risk missing the chance for discovery, repeating mistakes, or even reinforcing bad habits. Therefore, leaders and managers have a responsibility to support their team while ethically engaging them to dive deeper and transmit their learning to future experiences.

That’s where debriefing comes in…

Debriefing is a critical skill of facilitating meaningful conversation after projects and events. To do this, leaders, as debriefers, must challenge their teams to discover and acknowledge, sometimes, difficult truths as they empower them to be courageous in finding solutions…while simultaneously creating and maintaining a safe, brave space that respects the diverse needs of each individual.

While all the above is easier said than done, this seminar will provide the foundations of the principles of debriefing, introduce immediately actionable skills and pave the way for future exploration into the world of debriefing.

In this seminar, participants will:

·      Distinguish debriefing from other forms of conversations with learners, such as teaching and feedback

·      Explore the foundations of debriefing as a form of communication

·      Dive into and practice debriefing skills

This ESI Workshop™ consists of a didactic session followed by simulations. After the workshop, learners can participate in weekly, 1-1 follow-up coaching sessions with a facilitator for additional support as they integrate their new debriefing skills into their professional activities.

Why simulation?

The skills for debriefing, in and of themselves, are easy to understand; the challenge lies in the execution of these skills, especially when nervous or in uncertainty. Our simulations are designed to provide safe, calibrated encounters enabling participants to “try on” skills and gain experience in order to access effective tools when needing to debrief their teams.
